We had another half day in Ulaan Baatar before getting on the train late afternoon. I went to the local markets which were very crowded. I'm sure at one point someone tried to pickpocket me, I felt something in my pocket and reached down and pushed his hand away. There was only a packet of tissues in there anyway, everything valuable was in a money belt.
The markets mostly sold stuff you'd get at a supermarket, but cheaper, and clothes. Stand after stand seemed to have identical products for sale. I was trying to find some that sold old military and communist era badges, they were there somewhere but I never came across them.
And a final taste of Mongolian food. It's good for a short time, but I don't think I could handle that much meat long term. The traditional salted hot milk / tea drinks are very tasty, they apparently help with digestion so are drunk just before a meal.
