We arrived in Yangshuo on a very, very, rainy day.  Thanks to some a-hole on the bus we ended up getting off the bus a little further from our intended area and had to wonder around in the pouring rain following road signs that didn't quite match up with our guidebook.  We finally found a place that was decently priced and more importantly, dry.  We ended up moving the next day to the Bamboo Guesthouse, which had a/c, hot water, tv, and dvd player.  They also had a huge selection of movies at the front desk, free internet, and good food.  All this came in handy as the next 3 days where complete washouts.

Yangshuo was not quite what we expected but definitely a welcomed change.  We were expecting a hippy backpackers enclave but instead got chintzy Chinese tourism.  Not that the town wasn't nice and the scenery gorgeous, it's just that most of the tourism machinery was geared for domestic tourist and not foreigners.  For the first time on our trip we weren't the main target.  Instead we could stroll around and browse the shops and markets hassle free (for the most part anyway).

Our first morning in Yangshuo. Start of the West Street, which is a pedestrian only steet with hotels, shops, and restaurants. Later that afternoon having lunch. That evening during our stroll. The environs of my cooking class (4 for 4). Made some local specialities such as beer fish. I think our third day when the clouds finally broke. Guess what happened 2 hours later... Our river cruise, or should I say boat ride. This stretch of the Li River is depicted on the 20 Yuan note. Our tiny boat with little wood folding chairs and an incredible loud engine. Thank goodness the weather cooperated. Now that looks like a river cruise. Cormorants. The birds are used for fishing by the locals. Some lady and her water buffalo. We took ridiculous amount of pictures if your interested. Marcie doing her Zamfir impression. Our evening meal far away from the tourist crowds. "Booo" Yanshuo and the Li River as seen from the roof of our hostel. On our way to (next to) last stop; Beijing.
