What a whopper!

Text written in: English

We arrived in Ulan Ude early in the morning and yet again we were confused by how to do anything or go anywhere. We finally got a marshrutski (a ford transit crammed with annoyed looking Russians) to the town square where we see the world's largest Lenin head in the twilight of dawn... it was terrifying! Will hopefully get a photo of it on here soon so you can appreciate the size of the thing.

Apart from the massive heed, Ulan Ude proved to be a bit of a disappointment. We passed the time drinking chilli vodka which we couldn't take into Mongolia as we'd exceeded our vodka allowance. We did however manage to purchase some fine Russian long johns for the cold nights in Mongolia (no Anita, there will be no pictures of us wearing them.) Dan went for some fetching white cotton affairs which go by the brand name "Fatman's underwear". Kate is currently sporting brown merrino wool leggings circa 1950s. Our greatest achievement to date is getting the Russian saleswoman to baaaaa like a sheep when asked what they were made of.
