Before Las Vegas

Text written in: English

Before reaching Sin City, we stopped on route 66 and the Hoover Dam. A taste of civilization and all its glorious cheesiness that prefaces Las Vegas.

I took this picture, going down 180 So you were wondering who was driving? It's Yulia! First serious drive in 7 years! But it's not like driving in NYC. The road is empty and straight. I like trains, especially if it has no end. After being disappointed at not finding anything interesting in the Hualapai reservation, we ended up in Hackberry, a lonesome post on Route 66 Lots of crazy memorabilias here. old stuff Frozen in time No gas here Tanya loves these old stuff. Why are we attracted to old things? Didn't they back then use to put cocaine in coke? You can't forget that you are on Route 66. I personally like anything I can stick to the wall. That a man or woman? Yulia and her Indian friend. We know now that no Native American looks like that on a daily basis. Chilling with the gas pumps. It's not as hot as it looks. Sleek Corvette I prefer to see a real rattle snake. Whatever happened to the cars that had these plates? Lost in the desert? Buy American gas! Old bar. Elvis? Fridge magnets Route 66 beer? toys Time to go back outside This is actually a Greyhound Bus stop. A furnace in the desert? Well, I guess we are still a bit high up in altitude.... Outside, we found a garage of more old junk. But we were really seeking our "burro". Here's the little burro we were looking for. No, it's not "butter" for our Italian friends. It's a donkey. He wanted some treats. He was cute. But no treats for the little guy. Just memories. Now we are in a ghost town, the town of Chloride. No more silver chloride here, but just junk from yesteryear. (Rhymes!) Everyone asked me what an "undertaker" was. Shoot'em up! I stole some gun cartridges here. On Saturdays they have mocked shootouts, so the guns probably left behind some cartriges. These are real houses from the past. Not Disneyland remakes. What is she waiting for? Bong!!!! Care to go in? Horse shoes Actually there are still 200 people living in this semi-ghost town. What can you do here? Yulia wondered. There was a dog barking nearby. This is another jail house. Yulia is fascinated by the prickly pears. Mountains and desert Art is something people do here.... Admiring the Joshua tree.... Onward we go crossing the desert under the blue sky. so weird how they cut throught hills. On our left is the Colorado River downstream from the Hoover Dam There's the dam! Now we have to figure out which hotel to stay at in Las Vegas. This is the start/end of Lake Mead created by the dam. We are at the border with Nevada. Say goodbye to AZ! Hoover Dam from the other side. So hard to find a spot to shoot pix.
