Lazy Days - larry from laos

Text written in: English

I read that "the Cambodians plant the rice, the Vietnameese harvest the rice and the Laos watch the rice grow " it seems quite apt.

We have met up with Micky (london) again, exchanged a few travel stories and picked up where we left off.

In this sleepy village there are open air cafes that have day beds all facing the gods (TV) everyone here lies about watching re-runs of Friends, Simpsons and recent movies.  Two things to do here are Tubing ( an inflateable tyre ) on the river and hire bicycles.  As it is raining at the moment, we joined in with the masses and started watching TV.

There is a hazey cultrure here, Opium tea,  mushroom shakes and happy pizza.  It is frouned upon by the local police and they willingly hand out $500 fines for anyone caught.  Everywhere closes at 11.30pm then the river becomes alive with lots of travellers sitting around campfires spinning yarns.

On the bus ride here form Vietanne the capital we saw a red moon low in the sky. I actually shouted across the bus to Suggs to make sure I hadnt been slipped any of the mushrooms.  Alledgley the make you hallucinate.  We used a local bus to travel from the airport, every inch of space is used.  On the roof there is motorbikes, boxes, old women, kids, chickens, luggage and probably a few refugees.  Inside our bags were flung up the ailse and people used them to step on sit and sleep on.  We were lucky and got seats.  Bus journeys are a great way to see the real countryside, I find myself drifting into thoughts of the past, present and the future.  Its a good place to have quality time with yourself.

The country was origionally called LAO then the french arrived and added a siilent S on the end LAO(S).  Surprisingly there were more bombs dropped here during the Vietnam war than the total used in the 2nd World war.

Along the road we have given names to the locals.  Jackie from China, Charlie from Vietnam, Ken from Cambodia and now Larry from Laos.  Sorry if that seems a bit boring its just the lazy mentality we have.

Just seen two guys getting busted for smoking a spliff at our hotel, the police came in and took them out by the arm. We went tubing today, 6 hours in a rubber tube stopping every 100meters or so to have a beer and swing off zip lines and 10meter hight swings over the river, you drop off halfway and make a mighty splash.  Pissed as farts by the end of it.
