Songkran Festival - Chiang Mai

I cannot stress just how wet we are.  Im in an internet cafe dripping. Soaked and then soaked even more there is water everywhere.  To qoute Suggs " we would be drier in a washing machine"

The city has stopped working, everyone is using water guns, now not the small pistols like home, they are portable hoses use for crowd control ( they could cut steel with the power ) We just had big buckets of ice cold water dropped on us from pick - up trucks.  Its brilliant, sounds nuts but its very funny.  1000, s of people are involved, kids, parents, granparents, the police even get soaked. 

We have a motorbike riding around town launching water back at the 1000, s by the pavements.  There is a shallow moat around the old city and that is the supply for the fun.  Just to rub it in its 38c. 

Thursday 12th was New Years Eve, even bigger crowds came out to play, coca-cola got involved, great oppertunity for product placement.  The open back pick-up trucks have increased in number with scores on the back launching water.  We saw some people trying to avoid the lashing but their effort was frutile. 

To escape the madness for a while we headed to the karting track (speedway) for some racing.  We were a little apprehensive at first because some a family were on the outdoor track siling around and it didnt look to be very fast.  However, we got the race karts and they were super quick.  It was impossible to go flat out for more than 5 seconds and coming out of each corner and flooring the pedal resulted in a slid and a rocket up the jacksie.  When we finished after 12 mins I was shaking and my ass was pulsating like a fish out of water.  Who won ? well, who didnt crash ? who was least afraid ? im pretty sure it wasnt me !!!!!!!
