Camel Safari

Text written in: English

After a two night train trip across India I was ready to get out of the small little compartment and into the great wide open. I headed for the lonely planets recomendation of Vino's Desert Safari and was quickly happy i did, when he set up a nice 2 day 1 night safari with a really cool couple from Canada the guy from the states, and two sweedish girls one of whom was originally bengali but adopted in kolkata doing volunteer work in mysore. It was a great experience to be out in the desert awat from pretty much eveything else we had 4 camels to ride and 2 camel carts for gear and resting, which we soon learned was more than enough. As the term getting humped has to come from people riding camels cause the brunt end pf the camel bounces right up into your crotch especially when it goes down hill which leaves you sore even several days later as i write this. I met the other people before hand and quicly realized that this would be one of my better group trips we stocked up with beer booze and hung out in the evening prior and left early the next morning. The camel men as they call them were great most of them young except the english speaking guide who we didnt initially want but vino included because there were 5 of us. We spent a day riding out into the desert with a break for lunch which the guys all sat around and made in the sand an interesting side point of that is that they also clean the metal plates glasses and such with sand which is suprisingly effective save for a few grains here and there. We spent the night around a campfire after watching a less than spectacular sunset with local kids playing music and singing songs. That was one shock once coming out into the desert the local children are very eager the meet foreigners and when you go down a dusty roads with lodgind on the side you here endless cries of tata or hello coming from evey kid you pass, and they all want their picture taken, and dont ask for anything in return. After drinking around the campfire for quite some time i slept out under the stars with the aid of several blankets for the bonechilling cold.
