I have so many things to look forward to. First of all, I am going to LA and on a cruise to Mexico with my sister in two weeks! Secondly, I found out where my next project is going to be. I'm going to be in Biloxi, Mississippi (I get to cross off another state!) along with three other AmeriCorps teams, though I don't know who they are yet. We will be living in a church, in our own private AmeriCorps room with air mattresses on bunk beds. The church has a few communal computers (yay) and outdoor showers. Of all of the bad things I have heard about housing in the gulf, this one sounds great! We will be working with Hands On Gulf Coast (http://www.handsongulfcoast.org/). We will be split up into four different areas: construction, base managament, education, and green space. Construction, well that you can figure out. Base managament is for one or two people from my team and it would be admin work and being in charge of meals. (P.S. All meals will be provided for us!! Which is a great change from always having to cook). Education is three or four people tutoring kids and supervising other volunteers. And the green space is one or two people supervising volunteers working in parks and other green areas in Biloxi. I am shooting for the construction aspect, we have to do one and stick with it, but since I am very easily pleased I will probably end up doing whatever no one else wants to do. I am very excited to finally get down to the gulf, and so happy that I get to cross a state off my list. (And who knows, Birmingham, AL is not too far away {4 hours} so maybe I'll knock off two states.)
The only part of my future that I am not so excited for is after AmeriCorps is over. It is fastly approaching, we are already more than halfway done (which is crazy to even think about). So I have to start thinking about what to do after I graduate. I think I may travel around some more, maybe work on the slopes in Colorado? But that area is super expensive to live and I wouldn't end up saving any money, even though it would be some adventure. Any other suggestions?
Well I only have three more workdays in Oregon, good thing too, the work was getting more and more tedious and painful. But I am still enjoying beautiful Oregon, and I will definately miss Silverton and it's 9,000 residents.
