The Canadian Rockies wasn't our first choice of summer vacation destination but it turned out to be one of the best. Three of us spent a week in the Canadian Rockies and only wished we could stay longer. There is so much to see and do, one week alone does not do the justice. We rented a small guest house in a little town called Field in B.C. Field is a small railroad town situated right in the middle of the Yoho National Park. So it was really convenient to get to different places from where we stayed (except for Jasper). The guest house was really nice and comfy and we really felt it was our home away from home, not to metion the price does not poke your eyes out like in Lake Louise or Banff. The weather was surprisingly great all week (we have sunshine and warm temperature) considered it has been a real wet year in the Canadian Rockies. We hiked all over three Canadian National Parks (Yoho, Banff, and Jasper)which adjacent to one another but our favorite will have to be Yoho. Not only it does not have the congested traffic filled with tour buses and the crowd (a big turn off in Banff NP), it also offered a lot of different and interesting things others don't. Its views and natural beauty could easily rival the famed Banff NP. Little Aaron really enjoyed himself the entire time while hiking, playing in the river/creek/lake, and observing different wild animals as we come across. We have seen black bears at five different occasions, grey wolf (what a magnificient animal!), mountain goats, elks, etc. It was truely a wildlife kingdom! Too bad we didn't have the time to explore Kootenay NP which is just south of Yoho. I am sure we will be making a return trip back to the Canadian Rockies sometime soon.
